Caitlyn Morrow Stork - 4/24/09

I believe the word has gotten out but if not, Caitlyn Morrow Stork was born 4/24/09 at 7:54am weighing in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 19 inches long.  The delivery went well (and no, Brian did not pass out) and recovery has been relatively easy thanks to the help Eileen and Patrice have so graciously provided.  I am getting around very well - in fact, I didn't even get a wheelchair ride out of the hospital.  All the doctors/nurses commented on how fast my recovery has been.  I consider myself very lucky in that regard and it has definitely made caring for Caitlyn a lot easier.

The consensus is that she looks most like me when I was a baby - hopefully I'll get those pictures posted soon so you can provide your input.  She has the most beautifully perfect shaped lips and eyebrows.  Topped off with a cute button nose.  Her fingers, legs and toes are very long and she loves waving her arms around like an orchestra conductor.

While not much of her personality has emerged yet, there are a few things Brian and I have picked up on.  Caitlyn is freakishly strong for her size, she definitely has a stubborn streak and loves looking at lights.  She makes a ton of facial expressions - last night she was impersonating Elvis and I have even seen her do the "mom" eyebrow.  All in all, she is pretty well behaved.  We don't really have problems placing her in her crib or pack n' play.  She is content with laying there or with us cuddling her.  We've been working on keeping her up during the day so she sleeps longer at night - and I'm happy to report that she only woke up once last night.  Although I realize that can change pretty quickly so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

There have been some hiccups with breast feeding.  I can say it does not come naturally to baby or mom, but I have been working with a lactation specialist and that seems to help.  Another myth debunked - breast fed baby poop does not smell.  It can and it definitely does.  Also, as soon as a diaper is changed, she will inevitably dirty another one.

All in all, Brian and I feel incredibly blessed and can't wait for everyone to meet Caitlyn.

  3. Well, this is not the last time you will use Dog training techniques on your child. (whistling and snapping)! HA!

She is precious. Those newborn sounds are unmistakeable and I am glad you captured them on video. Love the horsey - the perfect animal friend to "shrink" as Caitlyn grows!

    Love you guys!
