In just three short months our sweet girl will be turning 3 years old! Caitlyn is now fully potty trained during the day. It was actually much easier than I thought it would be - she just "got it" one day - so much so that I dread potty training Chase and Emerson because there's no way I can get that lucky two more times. I still use pull ups for naps and at night, but more often than not, she's dry. We are so proud of our big girl.
Caitlyn loves hanging out with her friends and is really starting to interact and engage with them, especially pretend play. It cracks me up to see them. Just the other day she and her friend ran out with their pants off and pull ups on telling us they were babies. She's also really into books and loves reading by herself or snuggled up with Mommy and Daddy. She "reads" the books back for us and even sits for story time with the twins, which they love. We have had some issues with sharing now that Chase and Emerson are really playing with toys, and particularly since Emerson moves around so well and can (and does) get into everything. I know it's something we'll have to work on going forward.
Last month she started a Mommy & Me creative movement dance class and absolutely loves it. I'm not sure if she loves dressing up in leotards and tutus more or pretending to be different animals and wiggling around. In May, we've signed her up for a tot soccer program at the Y and I'm very interested to see how that goes.
She's really come out of her shell since starting preschool and has been much less shy in her interactions with others. I even heard her introducing herself to two boys at the playground - "I'm Caitlyn (Cait-kin) Stork". She's also become quite bossy (as I think the oldest child can tend to do) and loves telling everyone around her what to do. At least she's usually polite when she does, but I know this is something else we'll have to work on.
Learning wise, Caitlyn has her colors and shapes down. But counting and the alphabet is a different story. We've been really focusing on the counting because she's skipping numbers, but I almost think she's doing it on purpose since she knows them all. She recites, 1,2, 5, 7, 9 and 10 over and over, driving us crazy. While she doesn't know the entire alphabet yet, she can identify the letter C saying, "That's my name!" Her vocabulary has expanded tremendously over the last few months and we're able to understand what she's saying probably 95% of the time. We call her our little Italian because the way she emphasizes her words and raises her tone, sounds just like an Italian person speaking English. It's pretty hilarious when you hear her in action.
She is totally into the Lion King right now. It's the only movie she wants to watch and a lot of her pretend play centers around it. She loves roaring and if she's not playing Simba or Nala, she's Caitlyn-fasa (her imagination and how she links things together is amazing). Mommy is always Nala and who could forget Daddy-fasa. She's also been toting around a set of gloves she got when I went to the dentist. They have been going with us everywhere and, for whatever reason, she thinks they're the coolest thing. So moms make note - latex gloves could be just the thing you need for a quick distraction when you're out and about.
