1 year in review - Part 1

Well little man (and lady too), you've turned the big o-n-e.  This last year has been extremely difficult but also incredibly rewarding and, best of all, we've all managed to survive.  The stress of two newborns feeding around the clock (a big thank you to the refrigerator upstairs and Dr. Brown's formula pitchers), the surgery, the lack of sleep, the preparation involved with going anywhere and the constant, feeding, cleaning, laundry and dirty diapers.  It has all been worth it to see you two grow up and play with each other.  The happiest moments of my day are watching you and Emerson and Caitlyn interact.  I love how close you all are in age and in spirit.

As of 1 year old, Chase still has seven teeth with one more up top close to breaking through.  He is pulling up to stand easily and can even cruise around the furniture a little bit.  He had his first haircut.  With no extra hair on top and plenty growing in the back a la mullet style, I couldn't stand to see it growing over his collar and ears.  So I had Brian hold him while I used scissors to trim around his ears and neck.  He looks so grown up now!

Chase continues his love of food.  There's not much he won't shovel down his throat and he continues to drive us crazy by screaming at the top of his lungs anytime he sees food and he doesn't have any.  He still loves to be held and cuddled but he's becoming more independent and is able to play well for long periods of time, particularly if Caitlyn and/or Emerson are around.  If I call his name and ask him to come, he barrels towards me in turbo mode and crawls right up to me to give me some love.  He's one big lug who steals my heart on a constant basis.  His smile is infectious and he loves to laugh.  Food screaming aside, he is one easy going and happy baby who sleeps great.  He is also very brave and loves to explore his surroundings.  He's not talking yet, but he can babble with the best of him (I think he's close to saying Mama and Dada) and can wave hello.

His one year check up went great.  He feels huge to me, especially compared to Caitlyn and Emerson, but he's actually only in the 55% for height and 54% for weight.  He weighs 23 pounds 2 ounces and is 30 inches tall.  He definitely carries his weight differently and is much harder to hold since he's so stout around the middle.  And who could forget that head?  He continues to do well above average in that area, measuring in at 88%.  I like to joke that he'll be able to play football without a helmet.  That thing is solid and it's had it's fair share of bumps and bruises since he seems to lead by it (that or the forward momentum carries him into things).

Favorites - sleeping, eating, more eating, cleaning the floor of food, screaming when he sees food, balls, wheels, being loud and banging things, chasing Emerson, exploring, getting attention and being around people, waffles, meat and cheese, raspberries, cheerios
