A busy spring

This spring Caitlyn has been participating in several extracurricular activities.  She's done soccer, dance and swim lessons.  It's been busy and stressful at times, but she's been having fun (for the most part).  Soccer has probably been our least successful activity.  Caitlyn does relatively well at practice but as soon as we would go to a game she would shut down and cry on the sidelines.  Brian and I would have to drag her out on the field to play and most of the time we had to literally hold her hand to get her to go anywhere.  So we tried a different tactic for her last game.  We told her Daddy wasn't coming and I took her by myself.  Brian actually came separately but hid where she couldn't see him.  It worked wonders!  She played in the game all by herself - no crying or whining - and even kicked the ball and threw in!  Who knew?  We were so proud of her and it made for a great end to the season.  All that being said, I'm not sure we'll be trying soccer again unless she specifically asks to.

Swim lessons started out rough.  She and almost the entire class not only cried, but screamed bloody murder their first day.  It was pretty painful to watch from way down on the bleachers (the more physical distance between you the less likely they are to come running out of the pool for you) and I was sure I scarred her for life, but every lesson since then has gotten better and she actually seems to be enjoying it now.

Her favorite activity has been a Mommy & Me dance class.  She loves dressing up in a leotard and tutu and prancing around in her silver ballerina slippers.  Last weekend she had her first dance recital and while she was super excited when we got there, she froze as soon as she got on stage and saw all the people watching her (so frustrating since she was perfect in practice).  She and another classmate sat there and she played with her hair while her other two classmates danced around her.  She is painfully shy at times, something I hope she grows out of, but at least she looked super cute!
